    The city of Sur, famous for its ship building, makes it best for camping and fishing. The city also offers a wide range of activities for nature and sea enthusiasts from turtle watching at Ras Al Hadd, to kite surfing on Masirah Island or visiting the traditional Dhow yard of Sur, where till date Arabia’s ancient style of boat still continues to be crafted by hand. It is one of the most beautiful camping areas in the Sultanate, attracting various desert adventure fans, and is favored by visitors due to the ease of accessibility of essential services. A beautiful oasis Wilayat Badiyah is situated at the entrance of A’Sharqiyah Sands and is the perfect starting point to explore the depths of the sand.

     

    Sur is the perfect place to visit given it’s a town that prides on its traditional. The capital of Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate, it lies on the coast of the Gulf of Oman and is located around 150Km southeast of Muscat. A peaceful sea coast town with its noteworthy traditional dwellings is a charming getaway and one of the most crucial towns in the eastern region. When you visit Sur, the intricate streets uncover various fine houses with carved doors and Arabesque windows.

     

    Some of the places to visit in A’Sharqiya are:

    1. Sinaw Camel Market: Sinaw Souq, which is about a two-hour drive from Muscat and is situated at the edge of the Sharqiyah Sands, hosts a camel market every Friday. Bedouins from all around the area mostly visit the bustling souq to buy and sell live animals and necessities.
    2. Al Saleel National Park: The national park consists of three basic geographical types; the first being alluvial plain with a wide area of acacia and gum Arabic trees; second is the valleys that split the mountains and; third the broad hills of the above said mountains. Arabian gazelle’s Arabian wolves, red fox, wild cats and Egyptian eagles can be found along with a wide collection of turtles and birds.
    3. Sur Dhow Yard: Sur’s dhow yard is the place to witness craftsman build dhows the traditional method, the only surviving dhow-building yard in Oman.
